‘Tis Christmas Season
Happy Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas to all the visitors around the world!
It’s never too early to wish someone a Merry Christmas. I have had a wonderful year so far and all is going well. I hope all of you are enjoying your family times and enjoying the moments.
There is something irritating me and I can’t hold it any longer to myself (it’s been many years!). I don’t like it when people simply say it cheaply: “Happy Holidays” when referring to Christmas. For crying it loud it IS the time of the birth of Christ and we can’t hide that as though it is nor and just say “Happy Holidays”. I mean it is understandable that there are many non-Christians but some people are missing the point that there are holidays at this time around December 25th to celebrate the Holy day! Sadly, what annoys me the most is when I ask them if they know what Christmas is, the answer I get most of the time is simply, “Yes, it is the holiday season”. What is the root of all this? The only reason I can think of is the stores’ shopping sprees. Think about it. The stores advertise Christmas sales and sometimes they get criticized for calling it Christmas sales from non-Christians (who enjoys the “discount seasons” much more than anyone). So the stores end up calling it the “Happy Holiday Sales”. I never know one can exist without being born (December sales exist without Christmas?). Give me a break. Who (schools or companies) would want to give 3-4 weeks off just to celebrate the New Year? People, you are missing “Christmas”!
“Merry X’mas!”. Alright that sounds as though the person knows something about the the word ending with “mas”. This irritates me as much as saying “Happy Holidays” instead of a “Merry Christmas”. What’s the X? I will sort of buy it if you tell me the X is supposed to be like a plus sign representing the cross, which in turn conveys holiness and Christ. But I don’t think we need short hand lazy text messaging symbols to represent Christmas. Once again the stores will take the culprit? Have they been using short hands to fit “Christmas Sales, 50-70% Off, …….” on their banners and ads? I don’t relally know about the history of the X but I am pretty sure the Phoenicians did not create letter W on December 24th and letter X on the 25th.
Why am I being picky? Well to be honest I am not. I just want the words of God to be spread in the meaningful right manners and usages. I will not hopefully live long enough to get the lovely, charming, sweet mutated wish of “Mry X’mas XOXO. I hp u r hvng gr8 fam tyme”.
Oh yes, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
(Early wishes because I can’t trust my schedule to go online when it comes down to prioritizing celebration of Christmas, New Year and having a family time). I hope you all are having wonderful Christ celebration and prosperous new year!
