At Least 10,000 Killed by Cyclone in Burma

The death toll in Burma due to the cyclone has increased up to 10,000 people as reported by the Southeast Asian nation’s government on Monday. It is also said that many were injured and missing after the disaster. The cyclone hit through Rangoon and Irrawaddy delta with severe rain storms, and winds coming at 130 miles per hour.

It is glad to know that Burmese government is allowing international assistance, and aids shipments to the country, and has allowed U.N. aid agencies to help survivors. Thousands of survivors do not have shelters, potable water, in addition to power and communications being cut off.

As expected, government officials initially claimed the death of 351 died, but it actually increase the toll to nearly 4,000 early Monday, which is further raised to at least 10,000.

But will the stop the military government to hold the referendum on Saturday? Of course not! They may even use this as the advantage and cut off further more communications, or “make more people missing” and make news in Burma isolated from other countries. It has been done many times in the past. (In Courtesy of Save Myanmar.)

My condolences and sympathies are with all the people in Burma, to all those struggling to restart new lives from this tragic moment, to everyone else facing suppressions, and to the students, teachers, monks, social workers, all the innocent people, and props and kudos for keep oneself alive under the same old strict unjust military rules.
