What Good News Goes With gOS and gPC?

gOS distributed by Linux is intended for use in web applications, and was described as the alternative to Google Apps and other Web 2.0 apps. It is not intended for use with software. This operating system is designed to the user’s advantage because of its being lightweight and low priced. Walmart was the first to sell the Everex gPC that runs gOS. It was priced at $ 199 and was readily accepted because it was quickly sold out.

New generations of users will surely find this computer very applicable in today’s web world. With its revolutionary approach to today’s computing demands, you too can experience its simplicity and power. Have fun surfing the web, get in touch with your family and friends through email or play your favorite DVDs.

The gOS series is created by the Los Angeles based Good OS LLC Corporation. Based on the Ubuntu distribution, it uses the Enlightenment desktop rather than Gnome. Its closest neighbor in terms of usability is the Mac OS X.

The flexibility of Enlightenment to serve both as an X Windows Manager and a desktop environment adds to its usability. Even with lower requirements of lower versions of processors and lesser RAM space, the gOS can already work efficiently. Later, newer versions of gOS said goodbye to Enlightenment and used Gnome instead in tandem with Compiz fusion and the Avant Window navigator. These changes finally required a larger memory just the same as the normal Ubuntu.

Another plus factor for gOS is its ability to use only a very small hard disk space. Because it runs mostly on-line applications on the idea of cloud computing, less than 2GB of disk space is already enough to experience its real power.

In gOS, the default desktop consists of icons: About, which is a short cut to their website; hard drive, with the name of the hard drive’s manufacturer as the icon name; My gOS, just like the My Computer; and Trash where you dump your trash. The shelf contains the gOS menu that drops down to show the icons for the installed applications; desktops, typical Unix style multiple desktop selection; and the usual volume control, network status indicator and clock. The floating Google search bar and iBar are also present. Clicking the floating Google bar directs you to Firefox that is ready to start a search.

The gPC is already out of the market, and it’s dubbed as the “alternative PC for the masses”. True to this purpose, gPC comes with popular applications from the leading companies including Google, Mozilla, Skype and others.

With Everex behind on full time lifetime support, there is no problem about updates and revisions. What’s good about this is that these services come for free. It doesn’t matter whether you are already good at computers or just starting it out working with the latest technology. Everex will make life easier for you with its 1-year limited warranty and toll- free 24/7 technical support.

As of March 2008 gPC from Everex makes gOS available to you. You can also obtain it by downloading or on a live CD.
